Celebrating Good Moments Even In Bad Situations – Part 1

“Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ – Philippians 1:6 (NKJV)

It was a long day with much more to check off on the to-do list. I was managing well but must admit that I was running low on my emotional thermometer and physical strength. I needed a large cup of my favourite chai tea. Suddenly, my sibling fell ill and had to be rushed to the emergency department of the hospital.

Eight hours later, my sibling was admitted as a patient. I headed home to collect personal essentials and went back to the hospital. Twelve hours later, I was sipping on my cup of tea. Now, this might not sound like a very delightful story to you, but for me, it was a victory. A life was saved. Here’s what I didn’t do. I didn’t cry, get flustered and fuss at God or fall apart because my schedule was altered so drastically. I didn’t feel sorry for myself.

And that, my brothers and sisters, was a reason to celebrate!

My default setting should have been to do all three: cry, get flustered and fuss at God, and then fall apart. However, with that, I would have placed myself in an arrogant mood to deal with the various health professionals and possibly take it home to my family. But not that day. I wasn’t allowing the unplanned situations in life to change my attitude. So, I celebrated that one great moment of a bad day when I responded well to an uncertain circumstance. Thank God for the strength.

You can ask God for the same strength and grace to handle unexpected, life-altering situations, and celebrate when God gives the victory, even in the difficult moments.
